Dr. Saman Essa is a South Asian Muslim Psychologist with a research and clinical focus on promoting resilience among first and second generation immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers. She enjoys working with young adults, couples and adolescents and helping them overcome a wide range of issues.

She provides culturally responsive care that honors your unique experiences, and empowers you to explore emotions, clarify values, form healthier relationships, and work through emotional struggles so you can live a more meaningful life. She helps clients from diverse backgrounds build the courage to create change, manage mental health symptoms, and develop self compassion.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has experience supporting youth and adults recovering from past trauma and those facing major life transitions. She aims to meet you where you are with warmth and empathy.
Education and Training
Dr. Essa received her B.A. in Psychology and World Cultures and Literature with a concentration in Middle Eastern Studies and a Masters of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston. Dr. Essa is a graduate of the University of Houston’s Counseling Psychology Doctoral program and completed her pre-doctoral APA accredited internship at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center.
Dr. Essa is certified in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Additionally, she has received formalized training in the subspecialty of trauma, and is currently completing her post-doctoral fellowship at the Lucine Center and the Trauma and Grief Center at the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute. Dr. Essa also speaks Gujrati, Hindi and Urdu.
